  • Lazada Malaysia records surge in premium brand purchases

Malaysian consumers are showing a decisive shift in their online shopping behaviour, with premium brands now driving some of the strongest growth on Lazada Malaysia’s platform during the 11.11 Global Brands Festival 2025.

Premium brands such as Nike, Sony, Estée Lauder, Dyson and Lancôme were among the top brands purchased on Lazada Malaysia during 11.11, showing that Malaysians are confidently choosing higher value products online and are doing it on Lazada.

Consumers are also demonstrating strong trust in Lazada’s platform for higher value electronics. Shoppers in the Electronics (EL) category increasingly chose higher value gadgets, emerging as standout performers during the recent mega campaign. During the 11.11 campaign:

    • Smart Devices, a sub segment of Electronics, recorded a 76% increase in average order value (AOV) compared to the 9.9 campaign.
    • Computers and Components another sub segment of Electronics, grew 106% while Gaming Devices and Software increased 197% in purchase compared to 9.9.

Meanwhile, beauty emerged as a clear premiumisation story, with top tier skincare brands delivering some of the sharpest growth in spend per order on Lazada during 11.11 compared to 9.9. Average order value climbed 54% for Lancôme, 44% for Kérastase and 47% for Innisfree, underscoring Malaysians’ growing appetite for higher value branded products online.

“Malaysian consumers are showing a new level of confidence in buying premium products online, and the results from 11.11 reflect this remarkable shift. This demonstrates a deep trust in Lazada’s authenticity, fulfilment quality and the overall shopping experience. We will continue investing in technology, partnerships and consumer protection systems that give Malaysians the confidence to shop safely and securely,” said Kaya Qin, Chief Executive Officer of Lazada Malaysia.

Verified virtual mall environments continue to benefit most from this shift. LazMall’s AOV surged by a 20% compared to the 9.9 campaign. LazMall’s AOV on 11.11 also rose 13% year on year from 2024 to 2025, reflecting larger and more considered baskets.

This performance mirrors wider regional trends captured in a recent Cube Asia study, “The Rise of Virtual Mall Ecosystems in Southeast Asia”, commissioned by Lazada. Regionally, authenticity driven eCommerce, defined as branded goods purchased through authorised Mall environments on eCommerce platforms, has grown from 12% of total eCommerce in 2020 to 30% in 2025, and is projected to reach 55% by 2030, worth around USD $150 billion in sales.

The Malaysia cut of the study underscores how strongly local shoppers are leaning into Mall environments on eCommerce platforms and quality led decisions:

    • Nearly 30% of Malaysian consumers say they are willing to pay an extra 5% to 10% for the assurance of purchasing from verified Mall stores.
    • About 85% of Malaysian online shoppers now make at least 40% of their purchases in Mall environments, especially for fashion, beauty, electronics and home.

Digital tools inside the Lazada ecosystem also saw strong momentum during 11.11, helping Malaysians shop more intentionally.

AI Lazzie, Lazada’s AI powered shopping assistant, enabled:

    • 56.13% more conversions compared to the 9.9 campaign.
    • 85.65% more conversions compared to a normal business day.

Shoppers are using AI Lazzie to refine searches, compare options, understand reviews quickly and build better quality baskets within their budgets.

At the same time, creator and affiliate driven commerce is gaining ground, with affiliate driven performance in Malaysia growing 108% during the 11.11 campaign compared to 9.9, boosted by Lazada’s collaboration with YouTube as creator content and product recommendations helped turn inspiration into purchases.

These levers, AI Lazzie and affiliates, will play an even more important role ahead of 12.12 as Malaysians, plan year end purchases in beauty, electronics, lifestyle and home, and look to stretch their ringgit through smarter, more confident choices.

In its first-ever international competition, WonderBrew emerged as one of the biggest winners at this year’s event, clinching one Gold, four Silvers, and one Bronze, across both Taste and Design categories.

This victory marks the first time a Malaysian brand has won at the World Kombucha Awards and the first time an Asian brand has secured six titles in a single award year.

    The winning entries are:

    • One Gold (Taste) for Passionfruit Mint Kombucha (also WonderBrew’s best-selling kombucha of all time);
    • Three Silvers (Taste) for Nihon Green Tea Kombucha, Mango Jasmine Kombucha, and Raspberry Lemon Jun Tea;

    • One Bronze (Taste) for Pink Guava Jun Tea

The World Kombucha Awards (WKA), now in its third year, is a globally-recognised competition organised in collaboration with Kombucha Brewers International (KBI). It celebrates excellence in the fast-growing kombucha industry by honouring brewers for both quality and creativity.

This year’s edition was its most competitive yet, featuring 360 entries from 39 countries competing for top honours in 22 distinct categories, up from 250 entries in 2024. Each winning kombucha underwent rigorous assessment by a panel of six accredited judges over a two-day judging session with blind tasting sessions.

WonderBrew’s success stands as a remarkable achievement, not just for the brand but also for Malaysia’s presence in the global functional beverage scene.

“We started with a small dream of making kombucha accessible to every Malaysian. Winning these awards among the world’s best brewers is an incredible milestone, and we’re proud to fly the Malaysian flag high in Barcelona,” said Joseph Poh Wen Xian, co-founder and CEO of WonderBrew. “This recognition proves that local innovation and passion can compete with the world’s best.”

Poh and co-founder Loke Boon Eng (Boon) started the brand on a small scale in 2018 and its offering of naturally-bubbly fermented tea with local flavours has won over thousands of health-conscious consumers.

WonderBrew has grown to become Malaysia’s leading kombucha producer, with more than 2,000 retail touchpoints across supermarkets, convenience stores, cafés, hotels, and restaurants nationwide. The brand prides itself on sourcing locally and partnering with Malaysian farmers to recycle production waste, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and community empowerment.

The brand is well-positioned to tap into the rising global demand for functional and fermented beverages. According to recent industry reports, the global functional drinks market is projected to reach around US$248 billion by 2030, while the kombucha segment alone is forecast to hit US$9 billion in the same period.

Moving forward, WonderBrew plans to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia and introduce more lifestyle wellness drinks. Its entries featuring Jun Tea (a fermented green tea kombucha with honey), won two of its six medals proving this category has gained global recognition and endorsing WonderBrew’s excellence in this innovation.

PMCK Berhad (PMCK), a healthcare services provider in Northern Malaysia, has gained the approval of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (Bursa Securities) to list on the ACE Market of Bursa Securities.

This milestone underscores PMCK’s strategic focus on expanding its footprint through the development of PMC Kulim, a state-of-the-art private medical centre and mixed-use facility in Kedah, poised to address critical gaps in regional healthcare access.

The IPO comprises 272.6 million new shares (25% of enlarged issued share capital), with proceeds allocated for:

    1. Repayment of bank borrowings for PMC Kulim’s construction
    2. Acquisition of equipment for PMC
    3. Estimated expenses related to the listing exercises

“PMC Kulim is not just a hospital. We are a holistic ecosystem designed to elevate healthcare accessibility in the region,” said PMCK Berhad Managing Director, Dato’ Lee Gaik Cheng. “This listing enables us to accelerate our vision while maintaining financial discipline through strategic partnerships and streamlined operations.”

PMCK reported robust FYE 2024 performance, with revenue rising to RM104.34 million (FYE 2023: RM99.85 million) and net profit climbing almost 40% to RM15.02 million, reflecting strong demand for its specialist consultant services and healthcare support services. The company’s existing PMC in Alor Setar has treated over between 115,000 patients and 128,000 patients over the past three FYEs 2022 to 2024, supported by 40 specialist consultants across 17 specialisations.

Post-listing, PMCK will consolidate its other businesses in Kulim (Poliklinik Unik and Klinik Pergigian Unik) under PMC Kulim to enhance operational efficiency. The project’s mixed-use component is also expected to diversify revenue streams, contributing to long-term sustainability.

“Our goal is to bridge the healthcare divide in the Northern region of Malaysia,” added Dato’ Lee. “The approval for our listing marks a significant milestone for PMCK Berhad and we are now poised to deliver world-class care closer to home.”

Malacca Securities is the IPO’s principal adviser, sponsor, underwriter, and placement agent.

The listing will propel PMCK’s RM193 million PMC Kulim project, a 12-storey medical centre integrated with a seven-storey mixed-use development (hotel, food court, and amenities). Slated for completion in Q1 2028, the facility will feature:

    • 90 in-patient beds (single and double rooms only), one endoscopic suite, one operating theatre, two labour rooms, two nursery units, and 15 specialist consultation clinics.
    • Strategic amenities for patients’ families and the public, managed by a third-party operator to ensure operational focus on healthcare.

The project targets underserved populations in Kulim, Bandar Baharu, and neighbouring districts, where private healthcare infrastructure remains sparse.

With only 7.72 private hospital beds per 10,000 persons in Northern Malaysia (versus 17.71 in Kuala Lumpur), PMC Kulim aims to alleviate the pressure on existing facilities while tapping into demand from Kulim Hi-Tech Park’s industrial workforce and growing middle-class communities.
