The festive shopping season is well underway. Whereas once cash was king, now more shoppers than ever use their mobile phone’s electronic wallet as a contactless payment system when buying items, replacing credit cards or electronic ticket smart cards.
Smartphones increasingly rely on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for convenience and connectivity, but cybersecurity experts warn about a rising threat: NFC tag tampering. This tactic, often overlooked, can expose users to phishing attacks, malware, and data theft with a simple tap of their phone.
“NFC technology is incredibly convenient, but it’s also a vector for malicious activity if users aren’t cautious,” warns Marc Rivero, Lead Security Researcher at Kaspersky. “Innocent-looking tags in public spaces can be reprogrammed or replaced to carry out harmful actions. As the adoption of NFC continues to grow in areas like payments, public transport, and marketing, we anticipate that malicious actors will become increasingly sophisticated in their tactics. In the next few years, NFC-related attacks could potentially target thousands of users globally, particularly in urban areas where NFC usage is widespread. Awareness and proactive measures are key to mitigating these risks.”
How NFC tag tampering works
NFC tags are widely used in marketing campaigns, public transport systems, and smart home setups to enable quick, touch-free interactions. However, this same convenience makes them susceptible to tampering by malicious actors.
One method involves reprogramming legitimate NFC tags. These tags, when left unlocked, can be altered to redirect users to phishing sites, initiate unintended actions on their devices, or even deliver harmful software payloads. Another method is the physical replacement of original NFC tags. For example, attackers might swap out a genuine tag on a public poster or kiosk, in high-traffic areas like transportation hubs, cafes, or retail stores, with one that triggers harmful behaviors.
The dangers of malicious NFC tags
The consequences of interacting with a malicious NFC tag can be severe. Phishing attacks are among the most common outcomes, where users are redirected to fraudulent websites designed to steal personal information or login credentials. It’s possible that vulnerabilities in a smartphone’s NFC reader can be exploited to execute harmful code, compromising the device’s security. Malicious NFC tags can also prompt users to download apps or files containing malware, which may steal data, track activity, or damage the device. The seemingly small act of scanning a tampered NFC tag can thus lead to significant financial and privacy repercussions.
Protect yourself against NFC tag tampering
To stay safe, users are encouraged to adopt these simple but effective measures:
1. Inspect NFC tags. Avoid scanning tags in untrusted or suspicious locations and look for signs of tampering.
2. Verify actions. Always carefully explore the URL or action triggered by a tag before proceeding.
3. Disable automatic actions. Configure your smartphone to require confirmation before executing NFC-related commands. Install a reliable security solution on the device to reduce the risks.
4. Stay updated. Ensure your smartphone’s software is up to date to protect against known vulnerabilities.
Advice for businesses
Organizations using NFC technology should take proactive steps to secure their systems and protect their users:
• Use locked or “read-only” NFC tags to prevent tampering.
• Regularly inspect their tags in public spaces for alterations.
• Educate customers and employees about safe NFC practices.

Getting a Good Deal For Online Shopping With Omnichannel Solutions
Malaysians just love discounts, and monthly sales events like 11.11 are the perfect example of that. As the sales period rolls around, shoppers eagerly anticipate the slashed prices and irresistible promotions, whether it is to hunt down a long-desired item or spontaneously adding to cart.
However, amid this shopping frenzy, customers often face challenges that can dampen the excitement. Slow loading websites, forgotten carts, and delayed customer support can turn the shopping experience from fun to frustrating. Depending on the frequency, some platforms may face a lot of negative feedback from customers – driving a wrench for shoppers and sellers alike.
With that in mind, how can businesses turn these challenges into opportunities, and streamline the ecommerce experience for their customer?
This is where an omnichannel approach makes for the perfect solution. This new system within the ecommerce world revolves around the integration of different interaction methods to customers. Here in Malaysia, WhatsApp has up to 13.8 million users which is a substantial sum of potential customers waiting to be nudged. In fact, a record surge can be seen last year with over 8.2 billion messages being sent during Cyber Week over mobile-friendly, conversational channels, showcasing just how essential it is to stay connected across multiple touchpoints.
Here’s how omnichannel solutions can deliver a seamless shopping experience for both businesses and shoppers:Elevating Promotions with Multi-Platform Messages
Getting the word out on current promotions is one of the key parts to capture customer interest and driving sales. Omnichannel platforms enable businesses to share offers, product launches, and updates across various social channels at once, making sure no one misses out on the fun.
Picture this: a shopper browses a store in person, spots an item they like, and decides to wait for an upcoming sale. By following the brand on Instagram, they later receive a notification about a sale which includes that very item. After their purchase, the brand keeps them updated via WhatsApp and email, ensuring the item arrives safely. This seamless communication ecosystem makes the entire shopping process cohesive and keeps customers engaged with the brand at all times.
Timely Reminders to Boost Conversions
Speaking of time, a smooth shopping journey is not just about promotions – it is about maintaining customer interest until the very second they complete a purchase. In fact, 63% of people start their shopping online but nearly half still prefer making their final purchase in-store. Omnichannel platforms excel in this area by providing smart reminders to prompt customers in every step of the way. Tailored notifications and prompts can tap into customers’ past browsing behaviour or previous purchases to help them stay connected to products they love. This includes back-in-stock alerts, sale notifications, or abandoned cart nudges, which can make all the difference in turning a browser into a buyer.
Instant Updates for Transparent Transactions
Another important factor about online shopping is keeping customers informed to build trust. Omnichannel platforms shine in this area by providing real-time notifications that ensure customers are aware of every step of their order journey. From confirmation emails to tracking details and delivery updates, these instant notifications help alleviate any worries customers might have about their purchase.
Beyond the transaction itself, notifications about loyalty programmes, upcoming promotions or special rewards can also deepen customer engagement. Even a simple post-purchase survey can become a great way for businesses to collect feedback and fine-tune their offerings – making sure that they continue to offer the best services for the customers when they return.
24/7 Support with AI-Powered Assistance
The online world moves fast, and customers expect support that moves just as quickly. Thanks to the advancements in AI, businesses can now provide round-the-clock assistance that enhances the overall shopping experience. AI-driven chatbots can handle everything from answering FAQs to more complex tasks like providing document provisioning – making customer support both efficient and accessible.
Automating certain processes also reduces operational costs while ensuring customers receive timely responses. For more intricate inquiries, these bots can pass the conversations to human agents, empowering businesses to deliver superior customer service. This perfect blend of AI and human expertise strengthens customer relationships and ensures that no question goes unanswered.
At the end of the day, ecommerce remains a highly competitive world. Businesses that decide to equip themselves with omnichannel platforms can create a shopping experience that is smooth, satisfying, and frustration-free – even during the hustle and bustle of high-traffic sales periods like the upcoming 11.11 event. By integrating these nifty tools, businesses can not only address common customer pain points but also foster stronger relationships and build lasting loyalty. The result? Happier customers and a healthier bottom line for all businesses.

Indulgence Redefined: The Extravagance Of Sunway Resort’s 2-Bedroom Villas
I am an advocate of “health is true wealth”. As such after a few months of intense consulting work, training and intense report writing, I was in search of a tranquil haven to chill and fully enjoy the few days break that I had. Having gone through a hectic traveling schedule, I was not about to embark on a journey requiring many hours of traveling just for a short vacation. I wanted a staycation with green forest environment yet with all the modern facilities and amenities nearby within walking distance.
As I was mindful of the need for a truly relaxing time, I told myself this was the one time I would not compromise on the quality of my staycation. After all, as I have chosen a local destination for my short vacation, I have already saved much in airfare as well as exchange rates, therefore I was more than willing to channel that cost savings to a luxurious villa style accommodation. With that in mind, I began my search, and I found a perfect sanctuary at the Villas of the Sunway Resort. There are 17 captivating private pool villas of world class luxury nestled in the lush green tropical “jungle” ambiance to choose from. It did not take me long to decide to choose the 2 bed-room villa for my family. This world class luxurious accommodation comes with the price tag of RM6,000 per night. Yes, the price may come across as on the high side, but then world class palatial and spacious accommodation does not come cheap. However, the value it provides justifies the price.
As the golden sun dipped below the cityscape of Petaling Jaya, leaving behind hues of orange and pink, my sense of wonder deepened in anticipation of the luxurious sanctuary of Sunway Resort’s Two-Bedroom Villas.
I observed that beyond the lavish amenities and exquisite design, this villa is not just an accommodation but a journey of unparalleled satisfaction and unforgettable experiences. We fell in love with what we personally witnessed of the majesty of this place, and we checked in this stunning villa for 3 days 2nights stay.

You Too Can Excel
For a book title, it may sound too common. However, this is one book that is everything except common. I have written this book for a top civil servant who has over 35 years of experience where he shares his experiences through stories, insights, and hindsight for those aspiring young leaders who too want to reach the top positions in organizations.
As the book appears to have two names, allow me to differentiate between an author and a writer. A writer is the one who helps write the book, but the author is the one with the stories and the sharing of his views. The writer plays the role of interviewing to unleash what is inside the author and help write the book. Of course, there are authors who write their own books too. However, many people have books trapped inside them but do not translate their gems to be shared with the world.
One such individual, Datuk Ir. Amrullah has unleashed his trapped book into reality with his first book, You Too Can Excel. The book is written more in a style of self-improvement rather than a biography. This book is divided into 10 Chapters.
Chapter 1 gives a good background of Datuk Amrullah Kamal describing the events that had shaped him. His years of martial arts training through Taekwondo, Judo, and Silat classes have developed a sense of confidence and discipline that serves him well. His scouting activities developed his leadership, and survival skills as well as inculcated in him a sense of independence. His parents’ spiritual teachings have inculcated good moral principles and humility in him. His resilience and courage in his younger days certainly helped him in his later years.

Launching the English and the Bahasa version of the book at the same time Before introducing Chapter 2, there is a brief introduction on what are the 7 Majestic Step-Ups. The term, Step-Up means to do something faster and better with greater intensity to achieve the desired results.
The 7 Majestic Step-Ups approach are as follows:
Chapter 2: Majestic Step-Up 1: Engage foresight to develop a vision
Chapter 3: Majestic Step-Up 2: Have the guts to do what is right
Chapter 4: Majestic Step-Up 3: Develop superb communication skills
Chapter 5: Majestic Step-Up 4: Be hungry for success and performance-driven
Chapter 6” Majestic Step-Up 5: Execute well with massive action
Chapter 7: Majestic Step-Up 6: Follow through till successful
Chapter 8: Majestic Step-Up 7: Build a powerful and motivated team
Chapter 2 to Chapter 8 covers the 7 Majestic Step-Ups providing specific examples of how Datuk Amrullah had used them to excel. He rose from the rank of an executive engineer to the Director of JKR Sabah and then the Director-General Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, and finally the President of Majlis Perbandaran Tawau, through using this approach to help achieve extraordinary results often with seemingly impossible tasks.
In many of his works, he had tapped into his foresight to develop an inspiring vision to win over people’s commitment. He had the guts to do what was right rather than what was popular. He had used his superb persuasive skill to influence his superiors to approve something that had never been approved before. For example, he managed to get a huge budget for the development of rural roads in Sabah approved as well as for 45 fresh engineers despite the staff intake freeze policy.
In everything, one can sense that this man has a hunger for success and is performance-driven. He not only executed well with massive action, but his follow-through was relentless. To him, there is no such thing as failure unless one gives up trying. He did whatever it took, often outside his decision-making powers, using his influential skills to get a difficult idea approved and implemented. He was quick to admit that he did not chalk up all the great achievements by himself. He had leveraged the motivated team that he had developed.

The author with his eager fans awaiting him to autograph the book. Perhaps his courage, tenacity, and perseverance could be best attested by his attending Tony Robbins fire-walking seminar 3 times and having climbed Mount Kinabalu to reach the summit when he was 51 years old.
Chapter 9 is an emotional chapter where he shares his greatest loss. It is heart-rendering to read about the loss of his father and yet inspiring to know of the great love of his family that motivated him to overcome the adversities he faced. The lessons of adversities are indeed useful gems, especially for the younger ones who have yet to face a great crisis in their lives.
In the final chapter, Datuk Amrullah shows us behind the tough and disciplined leader is a man who has a soft spot for orphans. His involvement in community and charity work while working full-time in organizations shows his love and care for helping others.
His definition of his purpose in life is indeed most magnanimous and selfless:
“The purpose of my life is to serve others and make a difference in their lives. In the process of helping others, I will improve myself, become a better and happier person as well as achieve a sense of fulfillment in my life”.
His active role in securing a wakaf land and the building, Rumah Anak Ar-Raudhoh speaks volumes of a man whose kindness has made a difference in the lives of the orphans.
In this book, Datuk Amrullah generously shares his insight, experiences, and strategies to help those working in the public as well as the private sector to excel in whatever they do through the 7 Majestic Step-Ups.
You too can excel if you apply this approach in your work, whichever field you are in be it in manufacturing or retail business.

The Ideal Sanctuary – A Stone’s Throw Away from the City
When it comes to finding a getaway destination for a break, many people seem to think that the further we travel from home, the more exciting and exotic it becomes. The grass often appears greener on the other side. I used to hold the same belief until my recent staycation at a resort hotel that is just a stone’s throw away from the city.
In this article, my focus is on assisting busy executives who lack the time to search for an ideal staycation. Getaways that necessitate extensive planning, arrangements, and travel can add stress, defeating the purpose of a break meant for relaxation. The good news is that I’d like to recommend an ideal, relaxing, and refreshing sanctuary for these hectic executives, located within a short distance from the city – a 25-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur and 15 minutes from Petaling Jaya.
During the past week, my family and I checked into the exquisite Sunway Resort Hotel, which had undergone a thorough refurbishment, boasting an elegant modern appearance. I understand that the Management invested about US$60 million to give the hotel a contemporary facelift and equip it with the latest technology.
From the instant we stepped into the grand lobby of Sunway Resort Hotel, it was apparent that we were in for a special treat. The personal and courteous welcome instantly put us at ease, as the attentive staff showered us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. It was clear that this place was more than just a hotel – it was a haven of comfort and joy.
As we made our way to our room on the 5th floor, we couldn’t help but admire the stunning interior design that seamlessly combined elegance and modernity. The impeccable attention to detail and the hotel’s commitment to sustainability truly impressed me. Sunway Resort Hotel had embraced green practices without compromising on luxury, incorporating everything from energy-efficient lighting to eco-friendly toiletries.
Our Family Fun Suite was an oasis of tranquillity, exuding a sense of calm and sophistication. With 2 queen beds accommodating 2 adults and 2 children, the room was fully equipped with smart curtains, an entertainment zone complete with karaoke and gaming consoles, and a big screen entertainment area stocked with complimentary fresh fruits, healthy snacks, sweets, juices, beverages, and mineral water. We chose this specialty family suite for its promise of tailor-made comfort suited to our needs. Whether you’re a business traveller in search of a productive environment or a family on vacation looking for ample bonding space, the hotel is well-equipped to meet your needs.

Family Fun Suite
Entertainment Zone with Karaoke and Game Console As I entered the room, the plush beds with numerous pillows seemed to beckon me, and I couldn’t resist sinking into their soft embrace for a power nap to reenergize. Lying there, I felt the concerns of the outside world melt away, replaced by a sense of serenity and contentment. The panoramic view of the waterpark with its splashing waterfall outside my window was breathtaking, reminding me of the adventures awaiting me in this vibrant destination.
One of the standout features of Sunway Resort Hotel was its dedication to providing a family-friendly environment. Eager to explore the Family Zones, I found myself drawn to the Sunway Lagoon Water Park like a magnet. This water wonderland was a haven of fun and laughter, offering exciting water activities and a lively playground. I succumbed to the allure of the water slides and indulged my inner child, resulting in a ‘splash-tastic’ experience that left me with unforgettable memories.
For families with young ones, the Wonderland Explorers Kids Club was a treasure trove of joy. With an extensive array of games and activities, the little adventurers were kept thoroughly entertained, affording parents some well-deserved relaxation time. The hotel went the extra mile to ensure families had a wonderful time together, creating beautiful memories to cherish.
The following morning, I was eagerly anticipating the hotel’s breakfast spread at the Sunset Terrace on Level 1. Stepping into the vibrant and spacious dining area, the enticing aroma of freshly prepared dishes enveloped the air. The buffet was a gastronomic paradise, boasting an impressive selection of local Malaysian delicacies and international favourites. I savoured each bite, exploring new flavours and delighting in the culinary wonders that awaited me.

Sunset Terrace Our room also included a complimentary afternoon tea and evening cocktails, along with canapés, at the Premium Leisure Lounge.

Premium Leisure Lounge
Teatime at Premium Leisure Lounge Dining at Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, the flagship restaurant of the multi-Michelin starred chef in Malaysia, was undoubtedly a highlight of my stay. As a food enthusiast and a Gordon Ramsay fan, I held high expectations, which were not only met but exceeded in every aspect.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by an elegant and inviting ambiance. While perusing the menu, it was evident that we were in for a culinary adventure of a lifetime. The options were plenty, and after much consideration, we ordered a variety of starters including Arnold Bennett Twice-baked Soufflé, Chicken & Duck Liver Parfait, Aged Beef Tartare, Seared Scallops, and Transmontanus Caviar. For the main course, we opted for a whole Boston Lobster Thermidor, Classic Beef Wellington, Wagyu Rib Eye, and A5 Japanese IGA Sirloin. The Apple Tarte Tatin was our choice for dessert.
Each dish that arrived at our table was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with a burst of flavours that danced on our taste buds. From perfectly seared steaks to delectable seafood creations, every bite was a symphony of taste that left us in awe of Chef Ramsay’s culinary brilliance.
Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant also attracted notable individuals from afar. Seated across from us was Professor Muhammad Yunus, the renowned founder of Grameen Bank and a Nobel Peace Prize Winner. He had come with his family to dine at the restaurant and was staying at the hotel as he was scheduled to deliver a talk on Entrepreneurship For A Better World at Sunway University, conveniently located across from the hotel.

Dinner at Gordon Ramsay
Together with Professor Muhammad Yunus at Gordon Ramsay The service at Gordon Ramsay was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring that every aspect of our dining experience was flawless. They shared insights into the dishes and made recommendations, helping us make the right choices.
The next day, I decided to indulge by the poolside just outside Sunset Terrace. Lounging by the sparkling pool, sipping refreshing drinks, and savouring delectable bites made for a perfect unwinding experience. The atmosphere was ideal for relaxation, and as I sat basking in the sun by the pool, the hypnotic sound of the waterfall provided a constant soothing backdrop.

Poolside with Waterfall outside Sunset Terrace One of the standout aspects of my stay at Sunway Resort Hotel was its strategic location. The hotel was interconnected with the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall and Sunway Lagoon theme park, offering unparalleled convenience for any quick purchases. This seamless connectivity allowed me to immerse myself in entertainment and excitement without leaving the hotel premises.
Sunway Resort Hotel wasn’t just about leisure and fun; it was also a hub for events and gatherings. Exploring the hotel’s extensive meeting and events facilities, I was impressed by the world-class spaces and state-of-the-art technology available to guests. These versatile spaces catered to a wide range of events, from international conferences and exhibitions at the convention center to intimate meetings in fully equipped meeting rooms.
Watching the hotel staff expertly organize events with precision and care showcased their dedication to creating exceptional experiences. Whether it was a brainstorming session or a corporate dinner at Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, they had the expertise and commitment to make each event memorable and successful.
Throughout our stay, the exceptional service provided by the hotel staff stood out. Their warm and friendly demeanour made us feel more than just guests; it felt like we were part of a big, happy family. From the front desk to the housekeeping team, everyone went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
As our time at Sunway Resort Hotel came to an end, I found it difficult to leave the cocoon of comfort and tranquillity. It had offered more than just accommodation; it had provided a rejuvenating and revitalizing experience. I was charged up and ready to return to work with renewed energy and motivation. Sunway Resort Hotel was a place where luxury and warmth seamlessly blended, where joy and laughter resonated in every corner, and where cherished memories were etched in our hearts.
If you’re searching for an exceptional sanctuary to unwind, relax, and recharge, just a stone’s throw away from the city, I wholeheartedly recommend Sunway Resort Hotel. In my view, this hotel undoubtedly earns a 5-star rating.

Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) Achieves Milestone with First MitraClip™ Procedure, Pioneering Advanced Mitral Valve Regurgitation Treatment in Malaysia
CVSKL has recently achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully performing its inaugural MitraClip™ procedure, solidifying its position as one of Malaysia’s pioneering private hospitals to offer this cutting-edge treatment for mitral valve regurgitation.
Dr. Al Fazir, a distinguished consultant cardiologist at CVSKL, underscores the significance of the MitraClip™ procedure, emphasizing its potential to address mitral valve regurgitation without the necessity of open-heart surgery. This innovative approach provides a pivotal opportunity to mitigate valve malfunction.
The heart, a remarkable one-way pump comprising four chambers and four valves, relies on the coordinated movement of these flaps (leaflets or cusps) to ensure a unidirectional blood flow. When the mitral valve’s performance falters due to incomplete sealing or structural alterations, blood leakage—termed mitral valve regurgitation—occurs. This condition, if left untreated, can lead to severe complications such as heart failure and irregular heart rhythms.
What sets the MitraClip™ procedure apart is its non-invasive nature, eliminating the need for traditional mitral valve surgery. This makes it particularly appealing for older individuals, high-risk patients, and those contending with underlying health issues.

Meet our Heart Team, a collaborative force of skilled cardiologists, anaesthesiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and dedicated allied health professionals that made this achievement possible. Under the leadership of consultant cardiologist Dr. Al Fazir Omar, supported by esteemed cardiologists Dr. Choo Gim Hooi and Datuk Dr. David Chew Soon Ping, the CVSKL team orchestrated the procedure with remarkable success, culminating after approximately four hours. Dr. Al Fazir shares his enthusiasm, noting the procedure’s potential for swifter recovery, exemplified by a two-day post-procedure discharge. “The MitraClip procedure is a game-changer for mitral valve regurgitation treatment,” he adds.
Dr. Choo further underscores the importance of collaborative teamwork in this achievement, acknowledging the synergy between the adept cardiologists and the dedicated surgical team. Dr. David extends his appreciation to the radiographers and nurses in the cathlab, acknowledging their integral role in the success of advanced interventions like MitraClip™.
This landmark achievement amplifies CVSKL’s stature in treating mitral valve regurgitation, reinforcing their Structural Heart Program. The inclusion of MitraClip™ in their repertoire aligns with their aspiration to position CVSKL as a Center of Excellence for comprehensive cardiovascular care.

RedONE Takes The Lead In 12-Circuit WSF PSA Satellite Squash Tour To Nurture World-Class Malaysian Players
Malaysia is all set to make a mark in the world of squash with the launch of a series of twelve World Squash Federation (WSF) Satellite tour events. These homegrown tournaments aim to elevate the rankings of local players on the international stage, and they are made possible through the sponsorship and support of telecommunications company, RedONE Network Sdn Bhd.
The redONE PSA and WSF Satellite Squash Championships, a 12-circuit tour endorsed by both squash governing bodies, will see RedONE taking charge of all twelve tournaments, providing significant sponsorship money to facilitate their success.
Farid Yunus, the Chief Executive Officer of redONE, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering world-class players by allocating funds to enhance the skills and abilities of talented athletes. Currently, redONE sponsors national player S.Sivasangari, who holds an impressive international ranking.

Farid Yunus, Chief Executive Officer of redONE “Many young players who are new to the professional circuit find it challenging to travel to countries like Egypt, England, or Australia to compete and earn ranking points. Therefore, having this championship held in our own country is fantastic. It provides a remarkable opportunity for our players to improve,” Farid remarked.
The 12-series homegrown circuit, managed by ACE Sports and Management, commenced in February of this year. Since then, tournaments have taken place in various locations, including Negeri Sembilan, Bukit jalil, and Penang. The most recent competition was held at the Sungai Ujong from 8-11 June in Negeri Sembilan, where Goh Zhi Xuan emerged victorious in the women’s category, while Harith Danial claimed the men’s title.
Participating in multiple tours is crucial for professional squash players as it allows them to accumulate international ranking points, gain exposure, and earn prize money. These platforms also serve as avenues to attract sponsorships and represent their countries in esteemed international events, ultimately contributing to their career progression and success in the sport.
With ACE Sports & Management securing permission from the WSF to organize these tours, redONE has willingly stepped forward to shoulder the financial responsibilities. Farid highlighted the success story of Malaysia’s squash legend, Datuk Nicol Ann David, as evidence that the country has the potential to produce world champions in the sport, provided there is adequate financial support for facility improvements and player exposure.
“We are dedicated to nurturing grassroots talent, especially among young players, enabling them to compete and gain the necessary exposure. Without such efforts, their talent may struggle to flourish,” said Farid, who has also served as the President of the Selangor Squash Association (SRAS) for the past eight years.
Farid’s personal interest in squash is evident through his support of his son, Aidan Yunus, who secured the Boys Under-19 National Junior Championships title in Bukit Jalil last March.
Notably, RedONE recently invested over RM200,000 in repairing the damaged facility at Astaka Petaling Jaya, previously utilized by SRAS for training purposes. Farid also urged government-linked companies and corporations to take sports sponsorship more seriously. He suggested revisiting past sponsorship practices, such as government-linked companies sponsoring specific sports, citing examples like Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) supporting hockey, Telekom Malaysia (TM) sponsoring football, and Maybank’s association with track and field athletes.
Farid emphasized the need to place national players on a payroll, as seen in other countries such as Pakistan, Thailand, and numerous others. He likened successful athletes in those countries to soldiers or police officers, earning salaries while playing and receiving pensions upon retirement.
The upcoming sixth PSA WSF Satellite tournament is scheduled to take place on July 13 at the refurbished Astaka Sports Complex in Petaling Jaya.
About Ace Sports & Management
ACE Sports and Management, founded in 2022, is dedicated to promoting WSF PSA Satellite Tour tournaments in Malaysia, and aspires to be the premier tournament organiser in Asia. Our accomplished team of professionals and former/current PSA players possess the expertise to manage tournaments at all levels, from junior to professional. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, we strive to nurture and elevate the sport to unprecedented heights.

How Will You Measure Your Life In This Era Of AI?
In this era of AI, every one of us and all aspects of us can be tracked, monitored, compared, ranked, labelled, categorized, and quantified by many indicators, indices, and metrics. For instance, GDP per capita is used to measure the prosperity of the country. Countries are also ranked as Triple-A, first world, developed, friendliest, rudest, kindest or even happiest by a set of so-called criteria.
Based on the World Happiness Report 2023, which measures our happiness and well-being, Scandinavian countries scored high, with Finland being the happiest and Denmark being the second happiest in the world. The least happy country in the world is Afghanistan, with a score of 1.859, mainly attributed to a low life expectancy rate and low gross domestic product rate per capita.
Malaysia Ahead Of China & Indonesia

While Malaysia is ranked at 55 on the World Happiness Index (WHI) 2023 Report with a score of 6.012, ahead of Indonesia (84) and China (64), Singapore is crowned the happiest country in Asia at 25th place. Needless to say, this holistic measure is adopted because the success of the country should not be judged by just the amount of money they make. Many have defended that the success of a country should be gauged by how happy the people are.
Now, since our behaviour as well as our happiness could also be quantified against a list of factors, and we know the determinants of our happiness, could we achieve happiness if all the countries in this world are moving in the same direction?
Astute investors often use formulae to determine value by measuring the risks and returns of their investments. A fund’s or fund manager’s performance is often measured against certain standards or compared against their peers in the industry.
Many sophisticated portfolio construction strategies or techniques are “religiously” used by the fund management industry to drive the portfolio in pursuit of so-called “optimal” outcomes. Hence, assuming that all of us stay invested as advised by the experts and if we could leave all these cumbersome investment stuff to the experts who could genuinely safeguard our interests, would we be heading towards the right path compared to our peers who choose otherwise?
Measuring Value

Then, how do we measure and determine the value of our life then? Do we have a set of criteria also to measure our life? What are your standards or benchmarks that we use to measure our lives? Just as companies are obsessed with KPIs to measure the performance of their companies, shouldn’t we be obsessed with our life’s value? Our bosses also said, “things that can’t be measured can’t be managed”, right?
In other words, could we only manage our lives if we could measure our lives? Thus, are we managing our lives? If yes, according to whose or which standard? Are there any best or gold standards we could adopt to measure our lives to achieve optimality in every aspect of our lives? Are standards cast in stone and thus cannot be changed?
Countless articles have been written and have argued that money has got nothing to do with happiness. Many also brag that “everything is not about money” or “money is not everything”. But let us assume that money can buy us happiness, and we define our happiness by how much money we have in our accounts. Then, can we be really happy?
Humans Are Unique

Unfortunately, there is still no perfect or gold standard to measure our lives in this era of AI because we are not just data. All of us are unique and deserve to be unique. We all look at things from different perspectives. As we progress towards digitalisation, we are becoming more judgmental.
Why are we so quick to judge others? On what basis? In cross-cultural management textbooks, we used to learn about the differences between Western and Eastern values. But now, what values do we have? As we continue interacting with people from different backgrounds, can we still judge our lives based on our moral compass? What if our moral compass is skewed and not valid anymore?
We are often being treated as data. Often, statisticians trim 5 percent of the outliers so that the data becomes normally distributed in their analyses. In other words, the outliers are always underrepresented in the picture. What if we are the outliers? What if we just don’t fit in. Do we have to adjust to fit in?
Essentially, our life’s value depends on whether we think “happy” and how we live our lives. If our wellness is derived from the validation of others or defined by something we own, could we truly declare that we are happy? Words like “optimal” and “balance” are often heard, but who could actually live a balanced life?
Don’t you think it is easier if we just move forward or backward. In short, if we don’t progress, we will regress. Think about it. There is nothing much that we could maintain really. For instance, can we maintain our health? Or our brain capacity, our youth or our looks?
Even the landscape Feng Shui of your house changes according to which fengshui sifu you follow, and the comparative advantage of a country changes over the years. Nobody could be ahead of everyone forever.
Thus, why bother to create permanent enemies? Why can’t we, or rather countries, embrace diversity and subscribe to “prosper thy neighbour” instead of “beggar thy neighbour”? If we could be happy only at the expense of others, we may need to see a doctor.
